Date: May 8, 2025, 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM

Debate illustration
"This House contends that the inherent complexity of modern engineering challenges renders exhaustive mathematical analysis overkill, and that an iterative, adaptive design approach should be prioritized—even for life-critical systems."

This live debate challenges traditional engineering methodologies and explores how adaptive thinking may (or may not) meet the rigor demanded in safety-critical domains.

Debate Format and Audience Participation:

The debate will be held across two locations: the Main Room (Crystal Cove Auditorium) and the Overflow Room (Pacific Ballroom A/B/C/D with a live video feed). Both rooms are fully interactive to ensure an inclusive experience. Before the debate begins, attendees will vote using a QR code distributed at the venue. After the closing statements, you'll vote again to show which team changed the most minds.

Live Audience Q&A:

  • Main Room: Attendees can ask questions directly during the moderated Q&A segment. A volunteer will bring the microphone to your seat.
